Hello! I hope all is well with everyone? It’s always a quiet time of the year but the following certainly has not helped. ROAD WORKSWe can’t be the only ones struggling with these. I only live 6 miles away and at the worst point was going through 4 sets, and yes, I have other routes but they were no better, there is no escape! Last week we had lights right by our shop for 3 days, and another set just up the hill, they appear regularly at least once a month and usually last about a week. These cause massive tail backs (we are on a main road) so naturally it affects business. It’s certainly giving us and the customers something to moan about. ANTIQUE-INGGemma and I have been at it again. We have been to Bridgenorth, Leominster and few barns in Warwickshire. These are two of my favourite ashtrays we have picked up. The first one is a 1950s hunting scene made by Gray’s Pottery, Stoke-on-Trent exclusively for Dunhill, and the wooden one was so dirty we thought the insert was brass until Gemma gave it a good clean and it turned out to be copper. I just hope I like the person who chooses to buy them. UPDATINGWe have two card machines, and just before Christmas the more recent one updated itself overnight, so when I used it the following day it took me by complete surprise. Instead of it just saying approved it now shows a huge coloured tick and plays a different tune depending on which bank it is, boy did I jump, I truly thought it was faulty. It’s unnecessary and slightly embarrassing, but does cause a giggle with the customers. So last week this lovely lady called Jill rang up wanting to order some pipe tobacco for her Husband’s birthday. We put the transaction through and as the big tick started to appear the stupid machine decided it was a good time to update itself. Once it had finally turned back on, I had no receipt and her bank account was in pending. So, we waited a few days till we were sure the transaction had definitely not happened, tried again and all was well. She was as good as gold about it and found it rather amusing, but really, to update during a transaction it not on. I’m beginning to think myself and this machine have relationship issues. Hopefully we will chat again before the IGNITE show in May, which myself and the kids will be attending, and we are very much looking forward to it. Till next time!
